If you’re on the hunt for a seaside day out near Cheltenham, a day trip to Clevedon Marine Lake could be just what you’re looking for. With travel time from M5 Junction 11 coming in at under an hour, it’s close enough to travel to on a whim, as a planned place to meet up with friends or even to use as a pit stop on the way to or from Exmoor National Park and beyond.

Before you go, download the MiPermit app so that you can pay for parking, the code is 708014. There’s an all day charge (currently £7) and then it’s free to park after 6pm. I’d advise getting there early, especially if it’s a sunny day, as the car park fills up by 11am.
When you arrive, you’ll be spoilt for choice! We usually start with a walk, there are a few to choose from, but we like to go up Wains Hill hillfort. It’s not a difficult walk and the views from the top are glorious, especially on a sunny day. It’s also a lovely picnic spot. After lunch, we like to head out onto the field for some ball games, there’s plenty of space even if others are playing too. If ball games aren’t your thing, there’s a great little skate park, a play area and tennis courts, all of which are free to use.

For an extra cost, there is also fun to be had in the amusement arcade and on Clevedon Pier, with its rich history, gift shop and restaurant. For £10, a family of 4 can walk along the very boards that One Direction did tread back in 2014! There are also ice cream and fast food stalls in case anyone’s still hungry after their picnic.
Our last stop is always the water. Clevedon Marine Lake is a tidal pool, filled with sea water from the Bristol Channel every spring tide and it’s the perfect spot to bust out the paddle board or have a cold water swim.
