5 Ways to keep a clutter free home…

Following on from my recent post about decluttering your home, here are a few tips to make sure you keep a clutter free home once you’ve done the initial hard work! A little bit of tidying up every day can really help you keep on top of things.

Say no thank you!
You don’t have to accept every kind offer of hand me downs. It’s ok to politely decline things if you don’t need them or like them. If you feel like you can’t say no, ask if the person would like the item/s returned in the future or if you are free to pass them on to help maintain your clutter free home. Most people don’t want items back, so you can just pass them on to someone else who may need them or donate them to charity.

Regularly sort out wardrobes and drawers.
Doing a little bit, often means that keeping a clutter free home doesn’t become overwhelming. Children grow at an alarming rate, so sell or pass on anything that has been outgrown. If you have more than one child, have a box or drawer where you can easily place things you’d like to keep for younger siblings. Apply the same logic to other drawers and cupboards in our home, regularly decluttering smaller spaces will ultimately lead to tidier living spaces.

Deal with mail as soon as it arrives.
Recycle envelopes and save reusable packaging in a designated spot. Add appointments straight into your calendar so that you can shred the confirmation letters. Have a filing system for paperwork that you need to keep eg medical records, optician’s reports etc so you can put it away quickly and find it again if you need to. This will help keep your surfaces and home clutter free.

Make everyone responsible for their own spaces.
Easier said than done right? But children love to help, so start them young by adding pictures and simple words to their toy boxes and drawers, that way they know where to find things and crucially where to return them to. You could also ask them to help put away their clothing when you’re doing the washing, this also helps them with independent dressing, as they will know where to find their outfits. Have a basket or box downstairs for each small person, so that you or they can put their things in there when they’re finished with them and take them upstairs at the end of the day.

Sell or give away unwanted items.
Facebook marketplace is my go to for selling items, take some photographs, write a description and arrange sales via messenger. Vinted is also a favourite of mine, the upload process is quick and easy and you can choose how you send your items, picking from Royal Mail, postage lockers and various couriers. Recycle packaging saved from your own parcels and orders to save money and help the environment.

In conclusion, maintaining a clutter free home can greatly improve our overall wellbeing and quality of life. By implementing these five strategies, we can create a space that is organised, visually appealing, and conducive to productivity and relaxation. Remember to regularly declutter, establish effective storage systems, adopt a minimalist mindset, practice daily tidying habits, and involve the whole family in maintaining order. With these simple yet powerful techniques, we can transform our living space into a sanctuary that promotes peace and harmony.

A clutter free home not only enhances our physical surroundings but also positively influences our mental and emotional state, allowing us to truly enjoy the comforts of our own living space. So, let’s embrace the benefits of a clutter free lifestyle today!
