Last minute uniform
There’s no need to buy everything new for the start of a school year, but if you’re after a few bits, Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asda seem to have plenty of stock and some even have discount events on. Don’t forget PE kit, school shoes, trainers and wellies too. BGreater shoes do really fast delivery and their shoes are so good for growing feet!
Make sure everything is labelled
I use a Stamptastic stamper for ease and speed. Here’s a discount link if you need to get your hands on one. We also like Tinyme stickers for things like water bottles and snack bags.
Dig out the backpacks, lunch boxes and water bottles
Make sure they’re intact, clean and clearly labelled. Little Trekkers have a fab range of backpacks and water bottles, plus they offer an expedited delivery option! I like to get their snacks ready for the week too, Freddies Farm Snacks, rice cakes, oat cakes etc all portioned in Nom Nom pouches and ready for the week.

Make sure their ParentPay accounts (or similar) are topped up
Is there enough in there to cover school dinners and wraparound childcare? If you think your child may be entitled to free school meals (beyond Key Stage 1), be sure to apply here!
Make sure you have breakfast and dinner covered
The first day back can sometimes be a rush, so why not get everything ready for breakfast the night before, that way everyone can help themselves and set off for school full of energy. If you’re heading back to work too, why not stick a spag bol or chilli in the slow cooker, or pre prepare a meal that can just be heated up when you get home. By doing this, you can have a more relaxed evening and be free to hear all about their first day back.
Don’t forget the sun cream!
It’s due to be a scorcher this week, so remember to send a cap and apply sun cream (we like the Soltan Protect and Swim spray) or send some in their backpack so that they can put it on themselves at break time. Also, don’t forget to send a jumper and a rain coat too, because England!
Whatever day your children are going back to school, I hope it goes well for them and remember, it doesn’t matter if you don’t have absolutely everything ready for their first day, you’re only human! Right, I’m off to get ready for our last day of the holidays treat… a trip to Cadbury World!
